The SMG is maybe the most appropriate weapon class for Call of Duty Vanguard. Like most Call of Duty games, combat is fast-paced and often in close quarters. The SMG is ideal for so many situations in Call of Duty, so choosing the right one is always important. The core of any SMG is immediate, decisive action; you need both quick-fire and quick feet. You move fast, reload fast, and blast down any enemy in record time. SMGs tend to skew a bit weak in the damage department, true both in Call of Duty Vanguard and most first-person shooters. Let’s take a look at the SMGs in Call of Duty Vanguard and see what we can do about that.
The Number One Submachine Gun
Let’s talk about why the MP40 is the goat of SMGs. Typical SMG traits are a high rate of fire, lightweight for high mobility, and not a whole lot of damage. With an SMG, you want to stay on your toes and catch your enemies off guard. Use your faster movement speed to flank the opposition and disappear again before anyone notices you. Why the MP40 is so great is it’s suited to that playstyle, but it hits just that little bit harder. Personally, I found that every SMG unlocked after the MP40 just took too long to kill. This is what makes the gun special, all the run-and-gun fun with the lethality of a bigger, meaner weapon.
Taking Good and Making Great
Out of the box, the MP40 is a wonderful gun to start out in Call of Duty Vanguard. As you play with it and level it up you’ll unlock a wide array of attachments and really turn the MP40 into the king of SMGs. First and absolutely foremost you want a Mercury Silencer, a silencer is paramount with an SMG. You want to be as undetectable as possible as you run around the enemy line. Pairing this with Ninja and any other means of reducing enemy knowledge of your presence is the way to go.
For many of the other attachments, a lot of that comes down to personal preference. Ideally, you want aim-down-sights and sprint-to-fire speed to be as low as possible. Get the biggest drum magazine you can, a bullet hose like this needs plenty of ammo. I’d recommend the lengthened bullet type for a bit more bullet velocity. Finally, and maybe most importantly, you want to the Unmarked proficiency. This gives you silent footsteps after killing an enemy who didn’t retaliate, giving you carte blanche to run around enemy territory with near impunity.
That is how we would recommend you set up your MP40 for the best SMG in Call of Duty Vanguard! For tips on the best Assault Rifles, LMGs, Shotguns, Marksman Rifles or Sniper Rifles, check out our other guides! Be sure to also check out our review of Call of Duty Vanguard here.
