With a new Call of Duty comes a new suite of weapons, and there isn’t a better place to start finding the gun that’s right for you than with the assault rifles. The assault rifle is the bread and butter of Call of Duty Vanguard. Most weapon types are much more situational, but no weapon fits a broader range of scenarios than the assault rifle. Whether you’re fighting up close for territory or trying to pick off enemies at a distance, a good assault rifle should do a bit of everything. Here’s what you need to know to get the best out of the assault rifle category in Call of Duty Vanguard.

On The Topic of Assault Rifles

While we are here to talk about the best assault rifle choices in Call of Duty Vanguard, it’s worth mentioning that it really is hard to go wrong. There are some powerful choices in this game’s arsenal, but few of them stand out as especially weak. The starting assault rifle, the STG 44, is a fantastic weapon that will serve you well throughout the game. While our choice for the best takes a bit longer to unlock, there is honestly nothing wrong with rocking the STG 44 as your main assault rifle if you feel it suits you best.

The Top Tier Assault Rifle

Plain and simple, on paper, the best assault rifle in Call of Duty Vanguard is the BAR. If you’ve played any previous Call of Duty games or many other shooters you might recognise the name, it’s made many appearances in video games. This gun unlocks at level twenty-five, and what it lacks in fire rate it makes up for in stopping power. With the right setup, the BAR can kill a target in two shots at almost any range, and produce practically no recoil while doing so.

How To Get The Most Out Of The BAR

With all weapons in Call of Duty Vanguard, you’re going to need to use the right attachments to get the most out of your gun. For the BAR assault rifle, you want precision and reload speed. Start with the Mercury Silencer in the muzzle slot and the M1941 Hand Stop for the underbarrel, then surprisingly you want to leave the barrel section blank. The barrel choices for this gun increase range at a cost of bullet velocity and added recoil, and considering this gun has immense range to begin with this is only a detriment.

The Cooper SP stock along with Fabric Grip is a great choice to keep that recoil down to the bare minimum, then you want Sleight of Hand and Fully Loaded in your proficiency and kit slots. The BAR has a fairly small magazine size for an assault rifle so keeping your ammo up and your reloads snappy is a good idea. You might want to run the Scavenger perk with this gun too if you are feeling like your ammo is running out too often. Lastly, you want the .50 BMG 30 Round Mag with the Lengthened ammo type to bring the BAR from an assault rifle to a hit scan laser weapon.

From here, your unstoppable killing machine is pretty much good to go! The only attachment I didn’t mention was a scope, something I would say is a personal preference. For me, I like a snappy medium range scope to cover both up-close encounters and longer range situations. I would prioritise speed over most things as Call of Duty Vanguard is a very fast-paced game, but your style of play may vary. Regardless, with all the above your BAR should absolutely ruin your enemies at almost any range.
