Plenty of Nintendo Switch users will know the pain of a drifting Joy-Con. However, Nintendo has announced a fix for those in the UK and EEA.
Nintendo has announced that they will repair Joy-Con controllers that are having issues with drift. This service is eligible for Switch owners in the UK and EEA, even if the warranty has ended.
Am I eligible?
This comes courtesy of a new post on the Nintendo Support website (spotted by Nintendo Life). Users will be able to send their Joy-Cons free of charge for repairs, even if they are part of an older model.
This is already the policy in North America but it has now extended overseas. EEA members (which includes the EU alongside Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) as well as UK and Switzerland citizens are eligible for free repairs.
“Until further notice, Nintendo will not charge you in the European Economic Area (EEA), UK and Switzerland for the repair of the responsiveness syndrome irrespective of whether this is caused by a defect or by wear and tear,” the statement reads.
Nintendo Has Some Exceptions
Although age and warranty will not matter, there are some stopping blocks. If your Joy-Con has received damage from a third-party including accidental damage, negligence or somebody already trying to fix them, you will not be eligible for free repairs.
This is a much-needed service for players outside NA. Since its launch in 2017, the Switch has received many complaints about their drifting Joy-Cons. As a result, the UK consumer group Which? urged Nintendo to open an internal investigation into this issue back in 2021.
Despite this, it is still set to be an exciting few months for company with the upcoming launch of the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
