The new Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom gameplay showcase just aired with Nintendo. Here’s what new things we learned.
Although the gameplay trailer didn’t cover quests, story, side missions or dungeons, it did still showcase a lot of new abilities. As a result, The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is set to be an epic adventure. Let’s take a look at what new abilities are heading to the sequel.
Tears of the Kingdom New Abilities
Weapon Durability + Fuse Ability
Although it was the bane of many player’s existence in its predecessor, Breath of the Wild, weapon durability is returning. However, there’s a twist.
Players will now be able to ‘fuse’ together objects in order to make their weapons stronger. For example, the gameplay showed Link fusing together a damaged tree branch with a boulder. This allowed him to craft a makeshift hammer with more durability.
We also saw Link fuse a mushroom onto his shield. This caused a smoke bomb effect when it was hit by an enemy. Additionally, for those who wish to hit flying enemies out of the sky. Link can attain an eye in battle, fuse it to his bow and create a homing missile. Yes, you read that correctly.
This ability will allow you to fuse many items together to aid you in battle but also expect the enemies to do the same!
Recall ability
The recall ability will make traversal a lot easier for players. With the ability to rewind an object’s movement, you can climb onto a fallen object and ‘rewind’ so it ascends back into the sky. This will allow you to easily reach one of the many sky islands.
Ascend ability
Another useful ability that will help with traversal is the ascend ability. This allows Link to be able to climb through ceilings in certain areas. This will stop you having to scale every mountain you come across and make speedrunning opportunities a lot easier.
Ultrahand Ability
Another exciting feature for Tears of the Kingdom will be the Ultrahand ability. This allows Link to create vehicles that will allow him to travel across Hyrule. The gameplay trailer showed him combining logs and engines in order to create a makeshift raft.
With this ability, you can create everything from cars to hot air balloons and the options are endless.
Legend of Zelda Nintendo Switch Oled
The showcase ended with news that had only been rumoured up until now – a Tears of the Kingdom inspired Nintendo Switch OLED. This will be available from April 28.
Additionally, you can also get your hands on a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller and Nintendo Switch Carrying Case. These will launch on May 12.
