The Pokemon Company has announced it will be making a donation to GlobalGiving to provide humanitarian relief in Ukraine.
Yesterday (March 3), the Pokemon Twitter released a statement announcing it would be donating $200,000 dollars to GlobalGiving in support of Ukraine. “The growing crisis in Ukraine and Eastern Europe, which continues to cause the displacement of families and threaten the safety of children, is heartbreaking,” reads the statement.
“The Pokemon Company International is making an immediate donation of $200,000 USD to our partners at GlobalGiving to provide humanitarian relief. The nonprofit will efficiently direct the funds to community-led organizations supporting families and children affected by the crisis.” The statement then also directed readers towards GlobalGiving.org in order to learn more.
what’s happening elsewhere?
The Pokemon Company is the latest video game company to address the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. A number of smaller Ukrainian developers have put out a call addressing the wider gaming industry asking for support. And in turn, some large developers have responded too.
Bungie announced that all proceeds of the first 48 hours of its Game2Give charity drive would go towards humanitarian aid. CD Projekt Red also announced it would donate one million złoty (roughly £171,000) to Polska Akcja Humanitarna.
Some companies are taking other actions in retaliation to the invasion. EA has announced that it would be removing Russian teams from FIFA 22 and NHL 22. “EA Sports stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and like so many voices across the world of football, calls for peace and an end to the invasion of Ukraine,” EA said in its announcement.
A piece of fake footage has also recently gone viral. People were claiming it is of a Ukrainian pilot taking down a Russian jet. However, it turned out to be edited footage of the game Digital Combat Simulator.
