The popular Xbox series Gears of War is coming back as an officially licensed card game. Yet, there’s no sign of Gears 6.
While I’m sure this is not the return of the Gears franchise that some would have expected, this adaptation should not be sniffed at. Gears of War: The Card Game is being created by UK-based Steamforged Games.
Gears of War: The Card Game shouldn’t be overlooked
In case you’re unfamiliar with Steamforged Games, it is perhaps one of the most well-known board/card game creators of the modern era. Steamforged Games perhaps became famous with its Dark Souls: The Board Game.
What’s more, it is also the creator of the Resident Evil, Horizon Zero Dawn, Devil May Cry and Monster Hunter board games. To name but a few. More recently, Steamforged Games is even adapting Elden Ring.
Aside from the board game offerings, Steamforged is no stranger to card game adaptations with the likes of Pac-Man, Sonic: The Card Game, Darks Souls and more.
We’ve had a Gears adaptation before
Gears of War has had a miniature board game released in 2011 by Fantasy Flight Games. As an owner of this particular board game, I can honestly say it’s a lot of fun.
However, that board game is long out-of-print and can no longer be purchased new at retail. Though you can find it often selling via some popular auction websites. So, as much as I would have loved to see a Gears board game adaptation from Steamforged, hopefully, this card game should be a lot of fun.
Details on the card game are vague at this time. However, it is set to launch this year and by the looks of things, it will be skipping Kickstarter and will go directly to retail.
Can we have Gears 6, already?
Hopefully, with E3 this coming June, being only a few months away, we might not have long until Gears 6 is finally revealed for PC and Xbox Series X|S.
