Armor Games Studios has revealed its classic tower defense RPG Defender’s Quest will be getting a sequel later this year.
Developed by Level Up Labs, Defender’s Quest 2: Mists of Ruin will deliver “a vibrant new style, a thrilling fantasy tale, and the return of the series’ unique tactical brilliance”.
“No longer the oasis they once were, The Shining Lands have become plagued by a toxic gas known as Mirk, endangering anyone who dares venture outside the city walls,” the game description reads.
With a story written by industry veteran Xalavier Nelson Jr., Defender’s Quest 2 follows Evni Hunt and her crew, who venture across the deadly Shining Lands on a mission to save them.

Originally a flash game published on sites like Kongregate and Newgrounds, Defender’s Quest: Valley of the Forgotten appeared on Steam in 2012 that saw positive reviews with regards to its gameplay and soundtrack. On Steam, the score currently sits at 95%, which is classed as “Overwhelmingly Positive”.
On the other hand, some criticism was delivered towards its art style and controls, which the sequel appears to be addressing. It now looks wholly modern, with gorgeous illustrations across its character sprites and level design. This also extends to what appears to be improved controls and gameplay actions.
Since the game is being developed by the same team as the first, you can take this as a good sign that all the original aspects that did not work are going to be addressed in the sequel.
Defender’s Quest 2: Mists of Ruin is coming to PC sometime later this year. Armor Games has put a TBA on console platforms, so we’ll have to stay tuned to know more about that.
