Is The Last of Us on Xbox? As Sony’s blockbuster survival horror game gets a much-anticipated TV show adaptation on HBO, the 2013 title has seen a welcome revival in the cultural conversation. This has also been greatly aided by the Part 1 remake that launched last year on PS5, and soon to be PC. But can Xbox players access the game?
The Last of Us originally launched on PS3 in 2013, as one of the final exclusives to launch on the system before the PS4. A year later, it received an official remaster on the PlayStation 4, which brought with it improved graphics and performance. In 2020, a sequel titled The Last of Us Part 2 was released, and then a remake of Part 1 in 2022.
Is The Last of Us on Xbox?
Unfortunately, no, The Last of Us does not have an Xbox port. This is due to the series’ franchising belonging to Sony. Microsoft, which owns the Xbox brand, is a direct competitor to Sony, so it’s extremely unlikely any of Sony’s games will appear on there. If you want to play The Last of Us, you will need to own a compatible PlayStation system or a PC for the upcoming port of Part 1.
There have been exceptions to this, however. Baseball video game MLB The Show is published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, but has appeared on Xbox consoles since 2021. With that being said, The Last of Us is a lot more integral to the PlayStation brand, and is therefore unlikely to eventually be brought to Microsoft’s console.
There is a way
On the other hand, it is definitely possible to experience The Last of Us on Xbox in another manner. While it’s not the same as playing the game, HBO’s The Last of Us, which debuted in January, is currently available on streaming services you can find on Xbox. The series stars Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie.

Following Sunday’s season finale, HBO’s The Last of Us will be available to watch on digital platforms such as Google TV and Amazon Video from 11th April. It’ll also be releasing on DVD and Blu-ray on July 18th.
