Following the massive acquisition of Activision, Microsoft still intends to make “some” Activision games for PlayStation.
Yesterday’s deal made waves throughout the gaming industry with its ripples likely to make an impact for years to come. The deal is reported to be worth $68.7 billion and some gamers are worried that Activision titles will now be exclusive to Xbox.
However, that might not entirely be the case. According to a report from Bloomberg, a source close to the media outlet is said to be a “person familiar with the company’s [Microsoft] thinking.” So, there may be hope for other platforms yet.
Question’s remain over the future of the Call of Duty franchise. as well as its free-to-play Warzone. Following the acquisition, Xbox chief Phil Spencer said: “I’ll just say to players out there who are playing Activision Blizzard games on Sony’s platform: It’s not our intent to pull communities away from that platform and we remained committed to that.”
Have we heard this before?
When Microsoft acquired Bethesda parent company ZeniMax Media, Microsoft danced around the topic of future titles such as The Elder Scrolls 6 and Starfield being Xbox exclusives. We now know that both of those titles will not be coming to PlayStation.
However, when Microsoft purchased Mojang, the developer of Minecraft, which is a cross-platform title, it still remained multiformat. So where does that leave the likes of Call of Duty, another popular cross-platform series?
What does the future hold?
It wouldn’t surprise me if future Call of Duty titles become Xbox exclusives, but the free-to-play Warzone remains multiformat. Perhaps we will see the likes of Crash Bandicoot as well as Spyro coming to PlayStation and Nintendo. This is just pure speculation on my part, but only time will tell.
What Activision games do you believe Microsoft will make exclusive and make multiplatform? Let’s speculate across our social media channels.
