The Elden Ring Shadow of Erdtree DLC may have been in development a lot longer than we initially thought thanks to some new information.
Although we first found out that the Shadow of Erdtree existed back in February, we have yet to receive any more information. Thanks to Ziostorm over on Twitter, it appears that the DLC started development back as far as April 2022.
Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC
It is no secret that Elden Ring is one of the most successful games of all time so a possible DLC has everyone desperate for a release date. Although we are yet to have one, this new information shows it may arrive sooner than we thought.
This news comes after FromSoftware game developer Kenneth Kin Yue Chan updated their LinkedIn profile recently. It is here he listed himself as the “lead game designer/design manager” for Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree from April 2022 to the present. Before now, this had only been listed as an “unannounced project.”
Although this update hasn’t provided us with any additional information as to what we can expect from the DLC, it does show us a few things.
We know that Chan is “responsible for post-launch updates in general, working both with the development team and marketing to create and maintain a viable roadmap and schedule”
Expecting a massive DLC
This news comes just months after a rumour that the Elden Ring DLC would be a “huge” expansion. This came courtesy of a Reddit user who leaked a Discord conversation with dataminer and modder Lance McDonald.
This is the second major update we will have seen from FromSoftware since Elden Ring’s release back in 2022. The first being the Colosseum update that added PvP arenas and additional game modes.
With the Erdtree DLC being in development for over a year now, we will hopefully receive a possible release date soon.
