Sony is allegedly set to reveal its upcoming Xbox Game Pass competition service for PlayStation devices as early as next week, a new report claims.
As reported by Jason Schreier and Takashi Mochizuki for Bloomberg, PlayStation’s Game Pass rival service – currently codenamed ‘Spartacus’ – will debut “a splashy lineup of hit games from recent years”. The list of games included is unclear, but it most likely includes many first party titles released for PlayStation.
However, it might not feature more recent games. The recently released Horizon Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7 may not appear, for example.
It appears as the service will feature different tiers, with more expensive tiers including more games and features. For example, one tier offers a combination of PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now, something that Microsoft does with its own Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
Meanwhile, another higher tier will also allow members access to extended demos and the ability to stream games from the cloud.
Xbox Game Pass is available on Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One consoles, as well as Windows PCs and mobile devices. For $10 a month, it offers unlimited access to hundreds of games, including first party titles on launch day. It has more than 25 million subscribers at the moment, so it makes sense for Sony to also cash in on this success with a rival service of its own.
