So what were the two things during our time with the game that we felt didn’t quite work? Both of them a recurring issues with the genre.
we didn’t love: Jarring Moments
An issue that has plagued these choose your own adventure style game series for a while is that sometimes moments don’t quite link together. You’ll go from one scene into another and the animation just doesn’t quite feel natural. Or you’ll say something and the way it’s said will be different than expected.
It’s kind of an expected issue of the genre and unfortunately, it seems The Quarry will not be solving it. It wasn’t so bad that it was ruining our enjoyment of the game but we will be interested to see if much changes before full release.
we didn’t love: The Illusion of Control
We’re hoping the large amount of endings available in the game means that the paths to get there are varied. From what we played, it very much feels like how most games similar to it feel.
There is a route from A to B, how you get there may have a few small variations but, for the most part, you’re still going from A to B. With the slice of the game we’ve played so far only being less than an hour, there’s no way of knowing the ramifications of our actions. But there were a few moments that left us thinking: “does it really matter what we say?”
Are you excited for The Quarry? Make sure to let us know!
The Quarry will release on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S | X on June 10th 2022.
