Mario Kart 8: Deluxe was the best-selling boxed video game across all formats in the UK last week. Yippee!
Mario Kart 8 was originally released for the Wii U in 2014. Before it launched for the Nintendo Switch as the Deluxe edition in 2017. Furthermore, the Deluxe version included some moderate visual and performance upgrades, as well as all previously released DLC.
However, as great as Mario Kart 8 is, it does surprise me that it achieved such impressive sales last week. Sure, it can often be found hovering in the top 10 charts and, it is a great multiplayer party game. But I think very few of us could have predicted that it would claim the top spot during the Black Friday sales.
As reported by Eurogamer (via GamesIndustry.biz), Mario Kart 8: Deluxe achieved a whopping 567% increase in sales, largely down to Nintendo Switch bundle sales. As a result, Mario Kart 8 has topped the likes of FIFA 22, Minecraft, Call of Duty: Vanguard and Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl.
The top 10 boxed video game sales from last week can be found below:
