Here are the rest of our picks for the best games like It Takes Two!
Unravel Two
If co-op platforming is your jam, then the next game like It Takes Two that you should play is definitely Unravel Two, a cutesy puzzle-platformer about two Yarnys chasing the spark that links them. A surprisingly deep look at what connects us – with a dark story unravelling in the background – this is a game that needs you to work together to reach your goal, but it’s never a frustrating experience. Timing and good problem solving will see both Yarnys on the other side of a puzzle, and there’s a challenge mode if you’re feeling daring.
Portal 2
The king of co-op gaming, Portal 2 is an essential choice for games like It Takes Two, especially if you love to collaborate on puzzles, platforms and outwitting malevolent objects. Portal 2’s completely separate cooperative campaign sees robots ATLAS and P-Body take on Aperture’s test chambers, each equipped with their own portal gun: allowing for some truly dimension-bending shenanigans. Sometimes accidentally competitive but always a collaborative experience, solving puzzles as GLaDOS bullies or praises either of the players is fun like we’ve rarely seen since. You’ll be forgiven for the occasional portal-based sabotage, of course.
Knights and Bikes
Tear up a small British island in Knights and Bikes, a friendship-building, high-fiving adventure about two little girls on the hunt for treasure. A unique take on coming of age stories, Knights and Bikes features a lot of a) bikes and b) sword fighting (unsurprisingly), as characters Nessa & Demelza explore the island and their imagination, and the game charms right from the first goose-petting incident. A family friendly option for co-op gaming, Knights and Bikes also features fully customisable bikes, so you can recreate the bike of your nine-year-old dreams.
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime
Co-op gaming gets frantic in Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, a space shooting couch co-op where the enemy is Anti-Love and the aim of the game is to unlock the giant love heart in the sky. Just like real deep space, right? Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is half action and half party game, ideal for short sessions together and a fun pick for fans of It Takes Two’s vibrant, chaotic world. Silly, arcadey cooperative gaming at its very best, from its simple-to-master mechanics and free reign to shout at your pals.
We Were Here Forever
Escape from Castle Rock in We Were Here Forever, the latest and greatest entry in the We Were Here co-op exploration series. There’s something compelling about breaking out from prison together (as plenty of cooperative titles would attest) and We Were Here Forever nails the sense of mystery and apprehension that you and your player two will experience on your journey to freedom. Communicate through walkie-talkie and solve the ambitious puzzles, where one player has the answers, and another has the questions. A meaty experience with around 12-15 hours playtime.
That’s all for our essential games like It Takes Two – hope you found your next cooperative adventure (or trial)! Playing one of our picks right now? Let us know what you and your player two think!
