Sonic the Hedgehog 3 gets an official release date, despite its launching being nearly two and a half years away.
In what is usually a disappointing sub-genre, video game to movie adaptations are often a sore subject amongst gamers. More often than not, the video game adaptation is a let-down and depressing thought of what could have been.
Go away Ugly Sonic!
Thankfully, however, one of the few genuine success stories is the Sonic the Hedgehog movie franchise. It’s no secret that on its first impression, “Ugly Sonic” looked so horrific in the debut trailer, the movie got delayed.
I mean, Ugly Sonic looked more human, than a hedgehog with those disturbing teeth. Also, why did the original trailer feature “Gangsters Paradise” from Coolio? Sure, Sonic is old-school, but he’s no OG from the streets! If you want to be reminded of that trailer, you can check it out below.
That being said, all credit to Paramount and SEGA, because the revamped iconic blue hedgehog, looked much, much better. Though that wasn’t the last we’d see of “Ugly Sonic” because he made a humorous cameo in the Disney Plus movie, Chip ‘n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers.
Sonic the Hedgehog then went on to be one of the highest-grossing movies in recent years. This success then spawned a sequel which was also well-received with a Rotten Tomato audience score of 96%!
So, it should come as no surprise that a third Sonic the Hedgehog movie is on the way. However, if you caught the post-credit scene during the second movie, the trilogy was already made obvious.
When will Sonic 3 be released?
As confirmed by the official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account, Sonic 3 will arrive in cinemas on December 20th, 2024. Happy days!
Interestingly as pointed out by Eurogamer, this release date just so happens to be the same day as Avatar 3. However, Avatar 2 isn’t even out yet!
