Here are the rest of our picks for the best free VR games to play right now!
6. The Lab
The Lab, Valve’s collection of room-scale VR experiences, provides you with 8 mini-games designed to perfectly showcase what VR can do, all with the signature level of polish you’d expect from the developer. Set in a pocket universe in the Aperture Science Lab, choose from an archery game, a robot repair internship, or a secret shop ripe for clumsy chaos, and familiarise yourself with control schemes common throughout the VR catalogue. The kind of game built to show off new tech to friends and family. And yes, you can pet the dog.
7. Spider-Man: Far From Home Virtual Reality
Swing through the streets of New York in Spider-Man: Far From Home Virtual Reality, an experience designed as a short thrill-ride through the eyes of everyone’s fave superhero. Choose your suit and launch into the clouds – surprisingly not as nausea-inducing as it sounds – taking on a giant robot as you web swing like you’ve always wanted to. It’s an advert for the film, but it’s worth playing if you’ve ever pretended to shoot webs like Peter Parker. Play this over the Homecoming experience, as it’s much better (sorry, Andrew Garfield).
8. Gorilla Tag
Play tag as a giant, ridiculously fast ape. Gorilla Tag is an early access VR title with cross-platform multiplayer, seeing players compete in tag or infection modes by utilising a unique, surprisingly strenuous movement method. Parkour or psyche your way to victory, with matches taking place in a lo-res jungle that looks terrible but provides hours of fun. Private lobbies with the ability to choose custom rules propel this into a must-play for friends with VR tech, but with over 1 million players there’s never a wait for a competitive match.
9. Dagon: by H. P. Lovecraft
Horror VR gets the visual novel treatment in Dagon: by H. P. Lovecraft, an interactive narrative experience telling the tale of an unfortunate mariner who encounters a Fish-God on a muck-filled eldritch island. A terrifying take on morphine-fuelled madness, Dagon can be played through in around 30 minutes, though you should leave time for a cup of tea and a cat video after you’re finished. Hidden trivia and the game’s overwhelming atmosphere in the VR space make this an essential for fans of cosmic horror.
10. The Red Stare
Observe your neighbours and root out the communist sympathiser in The Red Stare, an incredibly stylish 1950s VR spy story. Your nation depends on you as a new special agent; and the grimy New York apartment, faxed-in clues and snazzy leather gloves all combine to provide a wonderfully distinct environment and mid-century atmosphere. Smoke cigarettes, collect evidence and listen to your boss drone on amidst a backdrop that’s as lifelike as it is suspenseful. The kind of free game you’d be happy to pay for more.
