Mortal Kombat 12 has just been shadow-announced by Warner Bros to release sometime in 2023. However, could it really happen?
As reported by IGN, Warner Bros. Discovery made a very underwhelming announcement during an earnings call yesterday. Furthermore, the announcement was mentioned by WB Discovery executive VP of global investment strategy, Andrew Sabin.
It seems Mortal Kombat 12 will be released this year (probably)
“And there’s lots more to come, including the highly-anticipated Mortal Kombat 12 and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, games also set for release this year with ambitious launch projections,” Slabin said.
We’re sure MK12 was not supposed to have been announced this way. What’s more, given the fact that it’s one of the biggest video game franchises in history, we would imagine that Warner Bros and Netherrealm Studios would have made a big song and dance for the big reveal.
If MK12 does release in 2023, it will launch in the same year as its biggest rival, Capcom’s Street Fighter 6. So it’s fair to say that it’s going to be a massive year for fans of the fighting genre. That being said, don’t be too surprised if MK12 doesn’t release until 2024. Though that’s just an assumption on my part.
2023 is going to be a big year for WB
IGN has contacted Warner Bros for a comment on the subtle Mortal Kombat 12 announcement. However, at the time of writing, WB has not responded to IGN.
As for Warner Bros. Games’ other big hitter this year, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League from Rocksteady Studios will be released on 26th May 2023 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
