Here are our most anticipated PSVR2 games of 2023 and beyond so far, as we look forward to Sony’s new VR headset.
While this PlayStation 5 VR headset promises to be a beast. However, it also comes with quite a hefty price tag of £529.99/$549.99. That being said, there are plenty of games to look forward to in 2023 and beyond.
It’s worth keeping in mind that this list has been restricted to just five titles, and release dates/windows can change in an instant. With that in mind, here are the most anticipated PSVR2 games of 2023 and beyond (so far).
Horizon Call of the Mountain (PSVR2)
Horizon Call of the Mountain is a first-person spin-off of Zero Dawn and Forbidden West. In this PSVR2 exclusive, you will assume the role of a former Shadow Carja member, Ryas. However, it is said that Aloy may make a sneaky cameo.
As punishment for crimes committed, Ryas is sent on a deadly expedition to investigate a new threat said to have made its home in Sundom.
Horizon Call of the Mountain’s campaign promised plenty of combat, exploration and mountain climbing. While Call of the Mountain will be a linear experience to that of the main game, it will feature multiple paths depending on some choices that are made.
The game will also feature a guided tour mode called “River Ride” where players will be free from being ravaged by robotic creatures.
Horizon Call of the Mountain is a PSVR2 launch title and will be released on February 22nd, 2023.
Resident Evil Village VR Mode (PSVR2)
Announced during a Resident Evil Showcase in June 2022, it was revealed that Resident Evil Village will be getting PSVR2 support. At the time we had no details on when it might be released or how much it would cost.
However, in December 2022, Capcom not only announced that Resident Evil Village VR Mode will be a PSVR2 launch title, but it will also be a free DLC update for those who own RE Village or its Gold Edition. Happy days.
We can’t wait to explore Castle Dimitrescu once more in VR. However, we’re not sure the same can be said for House Beneviento. If you know, you know. Nonetheless, RE Village VR will be one of the most anticipated PSVR2 games to come.
Resident Evil Village VR Mode will launch for PSVR2 on February 22nd, 2023.
Resident Evil 4 remake (PSVR2)
Following months of rumours and speculation, the Resident Evil 4 remake was also announced during the Showcase event of June 2022. Built from the ground up, this will be a retelling of the legendary RE4 which was originally released for the Nintendo GameCube in 2005.
At this time, while we have seen the main console version of the Resident Evil 4 remake in action, we’re yet to see its PSVR2 counterpart. That being said, we have no doubts that it will be one of the PSVR2s best games when it releases.
The Resident Evil 4 remake will release for PC, PS5, PS4 and Xbox Series X|S on March 24th, 2023. Its PSVR2 release will then follow at a later date.
The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR (PSVR2)
It’s going to be a rollercoaster of emotions, literally!
In 2015, we got a wonderfully fun spin-off to Supermassive Games’ Until Dawn with Rush of Blood for PSVR. Anyone that has played Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, will know how much of a blast this game was to play.
In a nutshell, Until Dawn: Rush of Blood is a horror rollercoaster with guns. It featured the many horrors (and more) from Supermassive’s Until Dawn on PS4.
The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR promises more of the same, and we’re totally fine with that. However, we’re sure there’ll be a few blood-curdling horrors lurking within the shadows to catch us by surprise.
The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR will be a celebration of all four episodes from season one of The Dark Pictures: Anthology. Namely, Man of Medan, Little Hope, House of Ashes and finally, The Devil in Me.
The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR will be a PSVR2 exclusive launching on March 16th, 2023.
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution (PSVR/PSVR2/Meta Quest 2)
It’s time to walk with the dead!
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution is the direct sequel to the 2020 release on Oculus Quest and PSVR.
Chapter 2 is set three months after the first game and if the undead weren’t enough to contend with, then a mass murderer known as “The Axeman” is after your blood. Lovely.
To survive the hordes of the undead, players will have an arsenal of weaponry at their disposal. Including new weapons such as a gruesome chainsaw and a Boomstick-inspired, sawed-off shotgun.
Chapter 2 of The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners is already out now for Meta Quest 2, but it shall release for PSVR and PSVR2 at a later date.
So that concludes my list of the most anticipated PSVR2 games for 2023 and beyond (so far). Naturally, I’ve missed quite a few games on this list, so be sure to let us know your favourites across our social media channels.
