There are plenty of cool armour sets to unlock in God of War, but only true masters of the game can unlock the best it has to offer. If you’re looking for the very best armour in God of War, you’ll need to wait until the end game content. While the armour you can find in Midgard is serviceable, it’s the armour in the mist realm of Niflheim that serves up the very best stats.
However, there are quite a few things you’ll need to do first to unlock the armour in Niflheim. Strap yourself in and prepare for a bit of a grind! Here’s how to unlock the best armour in God of War.
God of War Best Armour – Getting to Niflheim
First of all, you’ll need to find a way to get to Niflheim. To do that, you’ll need to obtain four language ciphers. These can be found inside the purple chests with skulls on the front, and there are several scattered across the realms. Ciphers aren’t found inside specific chests, you just need to find a certain number of them.
The first four chests will give you the Muspelheim cipher. We’ve got a guide on how to tackle Muspelheim here. The next four chests you find will give you the Niflheim cipher. Continue on with the story and you’ll find enough of these chests naturally well before the story ends. Once you’ve collected all four of the ciphers, head to the navigation room at the centre of the Lake of Nine and make your way to Niflheim.
God of War Best Armour – Mist Sets
Once you get to Niflheim you’ll be presented with a rogue-like section of the game. The arena-like structure remains the same in appearance, but the enemies in each room will change each time you enter. There’s a time limit to how much time you can spend in the labyrinth – once that runs out, you die. If you die while in the arena, you lose all of the Mist Echoes that you’ve earned. Mist Echoes are earned by killing enemies and opening chests.
You’ll want to harvest as many of these Mist Echoes as possible as these are what you’ll spend to unlock the best armour in the game. There are three different variants, all of which offer unique traits. The Deadly Mist set offers a boost to Strength, Runic, Defence, and Vitality. The Endless Mist set upgrades you Strength, Defense, and Vitality. Lastly, the Cursed Mist set gives a boost to Strength, Runic, and Defense. It’s up to you to choose one that fits your playstyle and character build. You can purchase and upgrade the armours from Brok and Sindri’s shop.
God of War Guide – Materials
Each of the armour sets requires different materials to build, but they’re all earned the same way. Grind out the Niflheim maze to obtain as many resources as you can. You’ll also need a few items from Muspeheim and Midgard, so be sure to return there for the items you’re missing. If in doubt, check Brok and Sindri’s shop – they might be selling an item that you’re missing.
They’ll take a bit of grinding to unlock, but the reward is surely worth it. Those Valkyries will fall in no time with such high level equipment in your inventory. Did you find this guide helpful?
