It seems that much like the rest of us, The Batman actor Robert Pattinson just can’t get over Aerith (or as he technically correctly calls her, Aeris).
Look. A majority of us know the deal with Aerith. It’s pretty much the Darth Vader of video game spoilers, but if you don’t know, maybe skip this one out. As Pattinson, in discussing his love of Aerith (slash Aeris), does spoil the game a touch.
Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz were both recently interviewed by French program Clique about their roles in the upcoming The Batman. And at around 20:20 in the show, the interviewer brought up how he also cries at video games like Pattinson does. Specifically, the scene where Aerith dies in Final Fantasy 7. In turn, Pattinson begins to talk about his love of the classic Final Fantasy character. “I was in love with Aeris. And Tifa,” said Pattinson (emphasis his).
“it’s a love triangle”
Pattinson’s co-star Kravitz was not familiar with Final Fantasy, so he began to (kind of) explain the story to her. “It’s a love triangle between Aeris, or Aerith, depending on what version of the game you have,” Pattinson told Kravitz, talking about the relationship between Cloud, Aerith, and Tifa. “And then Tifa’s like this sexy little thing, she’s a thief, wears a short skirt, and you’re like ‘I can’t decide,’ and then Aeris right at her peak gets killed,” Pattinson says while struggling not to love. “This is how every guy figures out what love is.”
It’s a very fun clip in which Pattinson struggles to hold it together with how ridiculous he sounds, with Kravitz making some apt, light-hearted criticism. The full interview is worth a watch just for the chemistry between the two.
While Aerith might be dead in the original game, so far she’s survived in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. But that might not be for long, as we are expecting some Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 news later this year.
