Whether you’ve known Kratos since his 2005 debut or only in this heartfelt father-son tale in the world of Norse Mythology, swinging your Leviathan Axe – one of gaming’s most iconic weapons – in the heat of battle is as timeless as any. As is the epic tale that comes with it.

2. Bloodborne – best ps4 games of all time
Yes, we love Elden Ring. However, out of all of the Soulsbourne games by developer, FromSoftware, the best is still one of the namesake titles of the sub-genre. Hidetaka Miyazaki’s renowned formula for brutal-yet-satisfying combat in a dark fantasy atmosphere, hit its peak with Bloodborne.
In its streamlined gameplay, with the absence of magic, the Bloodborne twist is that combat makes you need to be more aggressive. Also dropping the need to be on the defensive like other Soulsborne games, Bloodborne is that much more thrilling by encouraging to be on the offensive. Paired with its eerie world, broad options for weapons and builds, and some of the most memorable FromSoftware bosses ever, Bloodborne is still a classic today and a must for anyone owning a PlayStation 4.

3. Marvel’s Spider-Man – best ps4 games
Not since the Batman Arkham series did we think that Superhero games could sit amongst the best games out there. Then came Ratchet & Clank developer, Insomniac Games, to prove us wrong.
The 2018 Marvel’s Spider-Man game truly captured what it felt like to be the wall-crawler, packaged within one of the best Spider-Man stories in the modern day. As we felt growing up with the Sam Raimi films, web-swinging through town, backed with an orchestral soundtrack, made you feel like a god.
A broad variety of gadgets and manoeuvres made each brawl with street thugs and boss fights feel like an action spectacle. The incredible graphics and scope of New York City, is still jaw-dropping, as if you’re part of a new blockbuster feature. That’s more the case since the game’s plot is even better than the MCU Spider-Man films!
Most importantly, thanks to fantastic writing and the performance of voice actor, Yuri Lowenthal, Marvel’s Spider-Man presents one of the most perfect takes on Peter Parker – a great balance of maturity and intelligence mixed with goofiness and naivety that you can’t help but root for him.

4. Red Dead Redemption 2
“I’m tired, Sister”.
Known mostly for the GTA games, Red Dead Redemption 2 is truly where longtime developer, Rockstar, is in its stride – accumulating its years of experience into one of the best western games ever made.
This single-player action-adventure is the very definition of a slow burn in terms of both story and exploration of its humongous map. However, that only means you have more chance to revel in every meticulously crafted detail of this late-1800s Wild West, becoming a truly immersive experience. Another trade-off is the arc of the protagonist, Arthur Morgan, whose longrunning emotional journey is one of the most captivating in gaming. Red Dead Redemption 2 is not only one of the best PS4 games, but one of the best games of all time.

5. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
A sense of adventure is one of the most wonderful things gaming can bring. Not many games capture that feeling quite like Uncharted, and A Thief’s End is the crowning achievement of the Nathan Drake story.
Despite being the fourth game in the series, Uncharted 4’s story is just as fresh and even more exciting than those that came before. Introducing Nathan’s long-lost brother, Sam, Naughty Dog excels at gripping you with an even more personal story than what we’ve seen before.
Combined with jaw-dropping graphics and off-the-wall action sequences, Uncharted 4 is arguably the best action-adventure game on PlayStation 4.
