PlayStation Store is adding accessibility tags

This week saw PlayStation announce that they will be adding accessibility tags to the PS Store. These are set to roll out this week.

It has been a long time coming but PlayStation have finally announced new accessibility features for their games. From this week, players will be able to view accessibility tags for a bunch of titles in the PS Store.

The tags will highlight features of the game such as visual and audio accessibility, online communication and more.

How to access the PlayStation Accessibility Tags

To view the accessibility tags, all you have to do is press the triangle on a game’s product page. Sony has said that each title will have more than 50 tags describing accessibility features. To make it a bit simpler, they have been split into six categories.

  • Visual (text options, color alternatives, and directional audio indicators)
  • Audio (screen reading, visual cue alternatives, and volume controls)
  • Subtitles (subtitle size and caption overlay opacity or transparency)
  • Control (playing without button holds or repeated button presses; controller remapping)
  • Gameplay (difficulty setting, simplified quick timer events, or puzzle solution settings)
  • Online communication (text or voice chat transcription)

Sony has also revealed that several of its first-party games will receive accessibility tags when the update rolls out. These include Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut, God of War Ragnarok, Gran Turismo 7, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.

As mentioned, the features will allow players to view the audio and visual accessibility settings. Additionally, you can view difficulty settings, DualSense controller options and online communication settings such as chat transcription.

The accessibility tags will be available for both PS5 and PS4 games on the PlayStation Store for PS5. This also means that for games with both PS4 and PS5 versions, you can compare accessibility tags via a dropdown menu.

“We are just starting to roll out this feature and are collaborating with a wide range of developers to implement this feature in their game hubs on PS5 in the coming weeks and months,” says Sony in a blog post announcing the news.
