Valheim is at it again hitting even more milestones, this time reaching a mighty milestone of 500,000 peak players and being bested only by CS:GO.
Viking multiplayer survival game Valheim has been quite the revolution in recent weeks. It’s celebrated the biggest ever launch on Steam for a survival game, and it became one of the most popular games on the PC platform within days of its release.
Since its Early Access launch in early February, Valheim has already sold over three million copies on Steam, and there are no signs of its popularity slowing down any time soon.
Valheim has now reached a peak player milestone on Steam of 502,000 players, and while it seems to be trading places with Dota in the charts, Valheim lies just shy of PC juggernaut, CS:GO.
What’s probably even more impressive about Valheim is that Iron Gate, the studio responsible for this recent phenomenon, has a mere five people in its employment.
In a recent interview with PC Gamer, Iron Gate co-founder Henrik Törnqvist spoke about the rise of Valheim and how humbled he’s been by its reception.
“We had a feeling that it would sell pretty well, at least to sustain us, you know. But it being a million-seller, and now two million-seller, is something we could never have guessed,” said Törnqvist. “It’s quite incredible, and very humbling also, I might add.”
This month was the 35th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda series, and in the same interview with PC Gamer, the Iron Studio developer revealed that Valheim is more inspired by the likes of Zelda than the commonly assumed Skyrim.
“We wanted to have more of a feeling of an old school, single player adventure game, kind of like the older Zelda’s, I guess,” revealed Törnqvist.
