Dead Island 2 And Saints Row 5 Are Still Happening

Dead Island 2 and Saints Row 5 are still going full steam ahead insists the CEO of Koch Media, owner of Deep Silver Publishing and part of THQ Nordic.

We haven’t really heard too much about either game for a while now despite Dead Island 2 first being unveiled to the world back in 2014. However, they’re definitely not dead.

Klemens Kundratitz, CEO of Koch Media, recently told Gamesindustry.biz that it’s not time to give up hope on the franchises just yet.

“Look, Dead Island is a very important brand for us and we’ve got to get it right. It’s just a testimony of our dedication to get it right,” he told the publication.

“It’s a great story to tell everyone that it’s on its third studio, but we like to be judged on the end result and we’re really confident that when it comes out it’s going to be a kick-ass zombie game. We’ll certainly give it all our power.”

Earlier this year, THQ Nordic also announced a new Saints Row is coming, but the company has now clarified that we’re getting a mainline game and not a spin-off.

Kundratitz said: “Saints Row is very close to our hearts and we’ll talk about it next year. For the time being, we just wanted to get the word out that it’s coming and it’s going to be great.”

Details for Saints Row 5 are virtually non-existent at this point, but it’s a safe bet to say it’s going to be a title for next-generation consoles, so we definitely have a bit of a wait on our hands!

As for Dead Island 2…well, your guess is as good as mine. Earlier this year, a rumour suggested that the game isn’t only coming in 2020, but that it’ll also be a launch title for both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Scarlett.

The rumour stems from a Reddit user named MrJaxerino [via ComicBook], who claims to have some insider info about Dead Island 2. As always, this is an unverified source, and the user doesn’t appear to have any proof for their claims. Take the “news” with a pinch of salt.

The user writes: “Dead Island 2 is still in development by THQ Nordic (which we already knew). The new information I learned from a developer on the game is that the team is looking to target a 2020 release to launch alongside the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett.

“Also, the team is also apparently working on some new gore technology that utilizes ‘sub polygon displacement.’ I am in no way an expert on these things but that is what I was told. Finally, as a kind of obvious statement, the team at THQ Nordic does have PS5 dev kits and they do in fact look like the leaks.”
