According to documents that were made public during the Epic vs. Apple trial, it seems that when Dead Island 2 releases, it will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store on PC.
The document that has been made public is the Epic Games Store’s ‘Review of Performance and Strategy’ document from October 2019.
The other game that is potentially joining Dead Island 2 as an Epic Store exclusive is the next Saints Row game.
However, as PCGamer points out, the exclusive Saints Row release may have already happened, as Saints Row 3: Remastered launched on the Epic Games store on May 22nd, 2019.
It’s also worth keeping in mind that in 2019, Koch Media CEO Klemens Kundratitz confirmed that Saints Row 5 will arrive at some point, but it’s anyone’s guess as to when that might happen.
So despite Saints Row 3: Remastered being a timed exclusive on the Epic Games Store, it’s also likely that Saints Row 5 is the exclusive referred to in the document.
Dead Island 2 has had a troubled development since it was announced back in 2014. Since that time, the open-world zombie game has been passed from studio to studio, and is now on its fourth developer.
Dead Island 2 has gone from Techland, to Yager and Sumo Digital, and now it’s being developed by Nottingham-based Dambuster Studios.
At this time, we have no idea when Dead Island 2 will release, but it seems that Epic Games has already wrapped up a timed-exclusive deal on PC.
