Dead Island 2 has been delayed yet again. However, this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise for a game announced in 2014.
Dead Island 2 has had it rough, to say the least. Announced at E3 2014, Dead Island 2 has suffered multiple delays and has been passed around to more developers than a pass-the-parcel game at a kid’s party.
Dead Island 2 made a comeback!
However, Dead Island 2 is now being developed by Nottingham-based studio, Dambuster Studios in the UK. Despite several leaks leading up to its re-reveal at Gamescom 2022, Dead Island 2 not only made a triumphant comeback but, it looked pretty awesome too.
We were not only treated to a fun cinematic trailer, but we also got to see the game in action with an additional gameplay trailer. What’s more, the gameplay trailer in question was packed with over-the-top gore, action, and humour with a clear emphasis on simplistic fun.
As far as re-reveals could go, it was pretty much perfect. Then we were treated to its new release date of February 3rd, 2023. Finally, we not only knew that Dead Island 2 was still alive and well, but we also knew when it would arrive.
Dead Island 2 delayed? Never!
Sadly, that February 2023 release date is no more and the game has been pushed back yet again. Thankfully, however, it’s only a short(ish) delay of 12 weeks. To be fair, we’ve been literally waiting years for this game, so I’m sure an extra 12 weeks won’t hurt.
“The irony of delaying Dead Island 2 is not lost on us, and we are as disappointed as you undoubtedly are,” announced the developers in a tweet.
“The delay is just 12 short weeks and development is on the final straight now; we’re going to take the time we need to make sure we can launch a game we’re proud to launch. For those of you who’ve been waiting for years, thank you for hanging in there with us.”
New gameplay arrives next month
Dambuster Studios also confirmed that a new trailer as well as gameplay will premiere during a special showcase on December 6th. You can watch the Dead Island 2 showcase via the official YouTube, Twitch and website.
