Insomniac have recently announced that their next game could feature “very cool” new dialogue technology. Here’s what we know about this interesting addition.
This news comes courtesy of a recent livestream by Insomniac over on Twitch. It was here that viewer TwistedVoxel paid attention to the studio’s lead engine programmer’s thoughts. Elan Ruskin revealed that “there’s some cool dialogue technology coming out in the next game.”
Spider Man vs Wolverine
The only catch is that we are not quite sure which game Ruskin was referring to. This is because Insomniac currently has two games on the horizon – Marvel’s Spider Man 2 and Marvel’s Wolverine.
However, if we were to guess, our thoughts would land on Marvel’s Spider Man 2. This sequel was first released back in 2019 and is set for a Fall 2023 release. In contrast, we are still yet to receive any further information about their Wolverine imagining. This could mean that the studio’s “next game” would be Spider Man.
As mentioned, we are still yet to receive much news about Marvel’s Wolverine. As a result, we can assume the game is still in early development whilst they put effort into the Spider Man sequel. This can be confirmed after learning motion capture only started back in April 2022.
What is dialogue technology?
Although Ruskin did not go into detail about what dialogue technology entails for the studio, fans have done some guessing. The most common speculation is that this could mean more intuitive and realistic NPCs. It could also hint at more detailed dialogue trees.
Whatever it is, it’s safe to assume it will breathe a lot of life into the Spider Man sequel. Additionally, with a release set to arrive later this year, we are bound to receive more information over the next few months.
