Ah s***, here we go again!

Silent Hill 2 Is Getting A Remake Exclusive To PlayStation, Claims Rumour

New Silent Hill rumours have suggested that not only is a remake in the works, but also a sequel as well as episodic stories.

It’s not the first time we’ve heard similar Silent Hill rumours. To be honest, it feels like rumours are making the rounds every other month. So here we are once again. That being said, I am a believer in the phrase “no smoke without fire.

The latest rumours come from influencer “NateTheHate2”. In a tweet, it’s claimed that The Medium, Blair Witch and Layers of Fear developer, Bloober Team will be remaking Silent Hill 2. It is also claimed that the remake will have new endings and reworked puzzles. Apparently, it will also be a timed PlayStation console exclusive.

Could a Silent Hill 2 remake happen?

Furthermore, this rumoured SH2 remake will not be the only game that helps the return of Konami’s iconic survival horror franchise. In the same tweet, it’s also claimed that an additional “new mainline entry” and side stories could be on the way.

These claims were also backed up by industry insider Jeff Grubb. However, Grubb added that his sources informed him that Konami was planning a Silent Hill reveal at E3 this year. That was until E3 2022 was cancelled.

As a lifelong fan of Silent Hill and someone that especially loves SH2, there’s a lot to unpack here. For starters, Silent Hill 2 is beloved by so many. It’s not only considered to be one of the best horror games ever, but also one of the best video games ever.

Is Bloober Team the right fit?

For any studio to even attempt to remake Silent Hill 2, it would require a mammoth task. In my opinion, it would be best suited for a studio with a team of developers that have a history of developing great games.

The first two studios that come to mind are Bluepoint Games (Demon’s Souls remake) and Kojima Productions (P.T/Death Stranding). It’d even take The Evil Within developer, Tango Gameworks.

Don’t get me wrong, Bloober Team has made some decent horror games. However, in my opinion, while a great game often seems to be within its grasp, it never quite pushes itself over the line. For example, Layers of Fear, Blair Witch and The Medium are all decent games, but far from the level of SH2.

If the rumours are true and Bloober Team is developing a Silent Hill 2 remake, I don’t have the confidence that they’ll finally manage to cross that line of greatness. However, as a Silent Hill fan,  I hope I am wrong, and I’d root for Bloober Team to succeed.

In relation to the Silent Hill episodic rumours, VGC claims to have heard similar rumours mentioned by NateTheHate2 and Jeff Grubb. VGC claims that smaller studios such as Annapurna Interactive (Outer Wilds) have been mentioned.

Supermassive Games, you say?

However, one of the other names mentioned is very interesting, and that’s Supermassive Games. As you know, Supermassive is responsible for Until Dawn, Dark Pictures Anthology as well as the upcoming The Quarry.

In terms of an episodic, story-telling format, could there be anyone better than Supermassive Games? If Konami wanted to tell an alternative Silent Hill story, Supermassive’s style could make for a very interesting offering.

At this time these are unconfirmed rumours, so we must take them with a pinch of salt. However, as I said before, there’s no smoke without fire. Furthermore, with the recent Silent Hill leak that resulted in DMCA takedowns, could we finally be returning to the foggy town?

What are your thoughts on the recent Silent Hill rumours? Personally, I’d prefer to see a new remake of the original before SH2. Let us know across our social media channels.
