Want to play Zelda: Wind Waker on Steam? Dolphin has today announced that they will be coming to Steam for free later this year.
The GameCube and Wii Emulator known as Dolphin has announced they will be coming to the PC service in Q2 2023. As it currently stands, you can wishlist the download via Steam.
What We Know So Far
Although the information is scarce as of now, a blog post was published via the Dolphin website. They have also assured us that a feature will launch detailing “the process and features of the Steam release” closer to the time.
“We’re pleased to finally tell the world of our experiment. This has been the product of many months of work, and we look forward to getting it into users’ hands soon!” said Dolphin via the blog post.
The emulator will allow players to download copies of their chosen games (no games come with the emulator itself). You can then access the classics with increased resolution, frame rates, save states and netplay for online play.
Dolphin Via Steam
The Steam page for the Dolphin emulator promises a “return to the era of gaming before the microtransactions and experience a diverse library of thousands of titles that were released for these consoles over a span of 15+ years.”
“Dolphin Emulator allows these classic games to be reborn into the modern era with support for 4K displays, modern controllers, and much, much more. All of this, fully Open Source and free to download.
“Dolphin Emulator creates a virtual environment on your device that is capable of running games originally developed for two of the Big N’s revolutionary consoles. However, Dolphin itself does not provide any of the games. It is just a tool to run legally obtained copies of these games. Once you have dumped copies of your games into a compatible format, you can launch them directly in the emulator.”
It is also worth noting that the emulator supports community mods and is fully open source. Whether you want to go back and experience Zelda: Wind Waker before Tears of the Kingdom releases or experience one of thousands of classics, Dolphin is the sure way to do it.
