We hadn’t seen much of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet since its first announcement back in February, but the Pokémon team has at last provided a new trailer on its UK YouTube channel, showing a more in-depth look at the debut of the upcoming ninth generation.
When is the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Release Date?
Set in a brand new region thought to be made in the image of Spain, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will be arriving on the Nintendo Switch. At the end of the trailer, also showing off more new Pokémon and the game’s legendaries, we’ve been officially given a confirmed release date of 18 November 2022 (you can pre-order it from the GameByte Shop)!
With these latest chapters, the series is said on the games’ website, to be taking a “new evolutionary step, allowing you to explore freely in a richly expressed open world.” Following the latest trailer, The Pokémon Company took to Twitter to expand on this further.
Not only will players be allowed to explore a vast open world, but it will be the first true open-world RPG in the series. This means that we’ll be allowed to explore any part of the map as please, no matter where we might be in the story.
New Pokemon and 4-Player Co-op
That additional freedom also includes 4-player co-op multiplayer! The Pokémon Company says “Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet allow multiplayer gameplay with up to four players. Along with series staples, such as trading and battling Pokémon, you will be able to explore the various locations of the region in these games with other players”.
Up until now, the only new Pokémon we’ve properly got a look at were the starters: the fire-type crocodile Fuecoco, the grass-type kitten Sprigatito, and the water-type duck, Quaxly. We’ve now got a first glimpse at Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s legendary Pokémon as well!
In Pokémon Scarlet, you’ll meet Koraidon. In Violet, you’ll meet Miraidon. While the exact details of their powers are still a mystery, they’re said to surpass those of other Pokémon. Whether that means they’re more powerful than just all Pokémon in the region, or all their legendary counterparts worldwide, is yet to be confirmed.
We got a very quick peak at some of the other Pokémon in the region too. Two of the brand new addition in the trailer were Lechonk, a small pig Pokémon, and Smoliv, a timid-looking plant-like Pokémon. The Pokemon Scarlet and Violet website also shows off the adorable Pawni. Furthermore, the trailer also marks the return of some from previous generations – like Flaffy, Chewtle, Venonat, Gengar, Bagon, Larvitar, Pikachu, and many more!
New Characters in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
In terms of characters, the new Pokémon Scarlet and Violet trailer showed us two professors instead of the usual one – which one you’ll meet depending on which game you play. Pokemon Scarlet sees you with Professor Sada, while Violet has you be guided by Professor Turo – each carrying out research into the region.
There’s also your friend and supposed rival, Nemona. Compared to other friends you get paired with on the start of Pokémon games, this one actually has some experience in battle! So, this might end up being a nice change of pace depending how this works into the story.
You can pre-order Pokémon Scarlet and Violet right now for £43.95 on Nintendo Switch.
