A team comprising of ex-Rainbow Six Siege creators is making a game for a new Amazon studio, according to reports by Polygon.
Amazon’s start in the video game industry has been somewhat rocky. However, the company is setting up a Montreal-based development studio. The studio will include some of the creative talent behind Rainbow Six Siege, with the new team working on an “online multiplayer title based on new IP”.
In a recent press release, creative director Xavier Marquis elaborated on the project and what the team hopes to achieve under Amazon:
“Building upon 8 years of experience with Siege, we are excited to start with a blank page and the creative freedom to create a completely unique experience in the multiplayer space.
“From our first discussion, we felt a true connection with the people at Amazon Games, their approach to gaming and the sheer amount of knowledge, expertise and technology available there. It is quite humbling, and we couldn’t be more excited to start a studio with them.”
Things are busy behind the scenes at Amazon. The company is developing a colonization MMO titled New World, which has suffered from delays.
Amazon’s last attempt at an online shooter, Crucible, ended in tears as the game failed to catch on. Crucible was eventually cancelled, with the game being moved back into closed beta.
Perhaps Amazon’s luck is about to change. The company could be learning from its mistakes, which means its next game could have an effective launch and marketing campaign.
That being said, Google has also been suffering in today’s market, especially when it comes to managing first-party development. That being said, the video games market is unpredictable, so we could be about to see Amazon rise up as a first-party development house. After all, the company has put its money where its mouth is, especially when it comes to creating new development studios.
