A behind-the-scenes video has been released that takes a look at the epic fight scenes of the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie. As you would expect, the Mortal Kombat movie reboot is full of fights, many of which are expected to be very gruesome (as they should be).
In the behind-the-scenes video in question, we hear commentary from the Mortal Kombat movie director, Simon McQuoid, who gives us an added insight into how the movie was put together. In particular, Sub-Zero and Scorpion are the main focus, who are played by Joe Taslim and Hiroyuki Sanada respectively.
However, in the video, it soon becomes quite apparent that Joe Taslim is a force of nature when filming the epic fight scenes.
“I knew Joe was going to be Sub-Zero from day one,” said McQuoid in relation to Taslim’s performance as Sub-Zero. “Joe’s got that pure athleticism.”

Then Mehcad Brooks, who plays Jax, mentioned that he had to ask Taslim to slow down when filming the fight scenes as he was too fast and more advanced than everyone else. Brooks compares filming with Taslim to that of the legendary Bruce Lee.
In the featurette from GameSpot, McQuoid also talks about the impact of the original Mortal Kombat movie from 1995 and how it gave fans a unique perspective of its characters like they’ve never seen before.
McQuoid also gave high praise to Lewis Tan, who plays an all-new character created especially for this movie. Tan plays a character called Cole Young, and Tan mentions that he has a fighting background that he was able to bring into this production.
The Mortal Kombat will be released in US theatres and HBO Max on April 23rd. Check local listings for dates and platforms for your region.
