A shock to the system.

The System Shock TV Show Gets Mortal Kombat Writer As Director

Mortal Kombat film writer Greg Russo has been attached to write and direct the upcoming System Shock TV adaptation.

The System Shock TV adaptation was announced last year, and is set to exclusively stream on the gaming focused service Binge. Not much was revealed about the show, but now we know the writer of last year’s Mortal Kombat is on board. Russo is also set to produce the show alongside Stephen Kick and Larry Kuperman of Nightdive Studios, the rights holders of System Shock.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to work alongside the fantastic team at Binge and Nightdive Studios to bring the iconic System Shock franchise to life,” said Russo. “I’ve been waiting for the right opportunity to make my directorial debut, and I finally found it.”

The first System Shock originally released in 1994, and was highly regarded as an innovative title at the time. A System Shock remake from Nightdive Studios, in development since at least 2016, should also finally be released in 2022. The remake has been a long time coming, and is highly anticipated by fans of the series.

Russo had plans to make a trilogy of Mortal Kombat films. But Warner Bros. recently announced that Jeremy Slater would be writing the sequel. Slater also served as writer on the upcoming Disney+ show Moon Knight. And he also previously wrote for The Umbrella Academy and the 2017 live action Death Note adaptation.
