Talent management group Mary Collins Agency has confirmed that Brice Armstrong, narrator of Dragon Ball and star of Dragon Ball Z, has passed away at the age of 84.
In an announcement via social media, the Mary Collins Agency confirmed that Armstrong, who narrated the Dragon Ball series and was the voice of Ginyu in DBZ, passed away on 10 January of natural causes.
On Facebook Mary Collins Agency said in a statement: “In the anime and game community, Brice is perhaps best known as the narrator for the original Dragon Ball series, characters Captain Ginyu and Lord Slug in Dragon Ball Z, as well as providing voices on Yu Yu Hakusho, Lupin III, Case Closed and many other titles.
“Christopher Sabat, a Mary Collins Agency voice actor and founder of Okratron 5000, worked with and directed Brice often [said]: ‘Brice was the kindest, funniest person I’ve ever known. He was always humble, never in a bad mood-not the attitude you’d expect from such an industry legend’.”
Social media has been flooded with tributes to the iconic actor.
One fan tweeted: “Just learned of the passing of Brice Armstrong, Narrator of Dragon Ball and voice of Captain Ginyu. His voice really set the tone of this wacky and cool series we had acquired back in day. Powerful pipes and larger than life character. Rest In Peace, Brice.”
Another said: “RIP Brice [sic] Armstrong, who brought us the voices of Capt Ginyu, Lord Slug, and, most iconically, the #DBZ narrator.
“His sign off – NEXT TIME, ON DRAGON BALL Z – is the stuff of legend, and is embedded in my pop culture psyche forever. Thank you for your work and your art sir.”
A fundraiser for Armstrong’s legacy has been started, and will give donations to some of his favourite charities in lieu of sending flowers to the family. You can make a donation right here.
