But what are they breaking?

New Dragon Ball Game Sounds A Lot Like Dead By Daylight

In what might be the weirdest game announcement of the year, Dragon Ball: The Breakers takes Dragon Ball and mixes in the Dead by Daylight format.

Dragon Ball: The Breakers was announced last week, and is set to be an “asymmetrical multiplayer” experience. The game is borrowing from Imperfect Cell Saga in the trailer, showing seven Survivors pitted against The Raider, in this case Cell.

Players assuming the role of Raider can choose between Cell, Majin Buu, or Freiza. If you’re a Survivor, you can choose between Oolong, Bulma, and various other characters bereft of strong powers.

Cell seems to be able to increase in power, upgrading his various forms by capturing and consuming players. It’s not clear yet how this will work with Buu or Freiza, but it’s likely the method will be similar. In order for the Survivors to win, they need to use various items, weapons, and vehicles to defend themselves. And they then need to find the Super Time Machine to escape this seemingly temporal anomaly.

Apparently there’s going to be an open beta for the game sometime soon. You’ll be able to customise your game avatars with in-game credits and through purchasable options. And apparently you’ll be able to link the game to your Dragon Ball: Xenoverse 2 save file.

I am still trying to wrap my head around this announcement. While asymmetrical multiplayer games are more popular these days, Dragon Ball is an incredibly strange universe to pull from. At the same time, being able to play as Oolong in an official Dragon Ball game, where the whole purpose is trying to not be killed, is very funny. We’ll have to wait and see what the final game is like.

Dragon Ball: The Breakers will be coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC sometime in 2022.
