The Mishima bloodline starts here.

Netflix Is Launching A New Tekken Anime Later This Year

Netflix has announced that Tekken is getting an anime adaptation coming to the streaming service later this year.

At the weekend, Netflix released a teaser trailer showing off Tekken: Bloodline, a new anime adaptation of the classic fighting game. The show will focus on one of the game series’ main protagonists, Jin Kazama, as he learns martial arts.

Jin Kazama learned the family self-defense arts, Kazama-Style Traditional Martial Arts, from his mother at an early age,” reads the description of the trailer. “Even so, he was powerless when a monstrous evil suddenly appeared, destroying everything dear to him, changing his life forever.

Angry at himself for being unable to stop it, Jin vowed revenge and sought absolute power to exact it. His quest will lead to the ultimate battle on a global stage — The King of Iron Fist Tournament.

In seeking this “power,” Jin ends up seeking out his grandfather Heihachi Mishima, another Tekken mainstay, as his teacher. Other than what we have been shown from the trailer, and the description, we do not know much about the show. Though Netflix did confirm on Twitter that the show would be arriving worldwide in 2022.

Tekken: Bloodline is not the first time the fighting game series has had an anime adaptation. Tekken: The Motion Picture focused on Kazuya Mishimi and Jun Kazama, Jin Kazama’s parents. And in 2011, there was also a CGI adaptation of the games called Tekken: Blood Vengeance.
