Xbox Game Pass is reportedly getting an ad-free tier, which is at least what a recent survey suggests sent out by Microsoft.
Perhaps following in the footsteps of an ad-free Netflix, it looks like Microsoft is now exploring the possibility of a cheaper tier. Of course, if this tier comes to fruition, it would mean that subscribers would be required to watch adverts before playing a game from the Game Pass library.
Xbox could soon have four subscription tiers
At this time, Xbox has three main tiers. A basic tier that only includes Xbox Live Gold, a tier that includes just an Xbox Game Pass subscription. However, the Ultimate tier bundles in Game Pass, Xbox Live Gold, as well as EA Play and more.
The survey in question was posted on Resetera before being reported by VGC and Windows Central (thanks Game Rant). It is reported that this basic tier would cost just $3 a month
However, there would be one major snag to this ad-free tier. According to the survey, this tier would not include Xbox first-party titles on day one. While those titles would arrive at a later date, that prospect might put off some. What’s more, it reported that first-party titles will arrive six months later.
However, in addition to the 100s of games in the Game Pass library, this ad-free tier could still include Xbox Live Gold.
At $3 per month, this tier could still be considered a bargain. This, in turn, will of course feature the “free” games including Games with Gold. EA Play or any other perks will not be included in the ad-free tier.
Could the ad-free Xbox Game Pass tier replace Gold?
There have been rumours for some time that Microsoft are considering getting rid of the basic Xbox Live Gold tier, so could this ad-free tier be a new alternative? Only time will tell.
