Industry insiders have claimed that the rumoured upcoming Call of Duty: Warzone map will support 250 players.
For the last few months, rumours that a new battle royale map will replace Verdnask have been a constant. At this point, the rumours feel as inevitable as Thanos snapping his fingers.
Judging by all the previous leaks and rumours, Zombies will invade Verdansk (which has already begun) which will lead to the map being destroyed by a nuclear bomb. The new map is then expected to arrive with Season 3 this coming April.
Back in January, Tom Henderson claimed that a new Ural Mountains map is being tested and it will be much larger than that of Verdansk.
Those claims were made in a video on Henderson’s YouTube channel, TheLongSensation. The known leaker also claimed that the map will support 250 players. Check it out below.
Now a new a tweet made by a Spanish Call of Duty fan account has added to the claims [via GamingBible].
“The new warzone map is extremely large, so much so that it combines 23 dirty bomb maps. There will be more vehicles.
“Many of them have yet to make it to Black Ops Cold War. There is also talk that it will be played with 250 players,” the tweet says [translated].
While it’s not known if this tweet is referring to the Henderson video or some other source, it’s definitely food for thought. We’ve now heard this rumour twice, suggesting there could be some truth to it. As always, take all rumours with a pinch of salt. At this stage, they are not confirmed.
Personally, I believe that it is possible to support 250 players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, as well as high-end PCs. Though I have doubts that the base PS4 and Xbox One could do the same, which might have a negative impact on crossplay.
As always, we’ll keep you posted if we hear of any further developments on this story.
