Update: 15/6/2021 – The demo is now working.
The launch of the new Final Fantasy spin-off has caused chaos since its demo launched only yesterday with reports of data corruption. More chaos than the announcement trailer (that repeatedly said chaos).
Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin is a new spin-off in the beloved JRPG series and will be developed by Tecmo Koei’s Ninja Gaiden studio, Team Ninja.
Visually, the reveal didn’t perhaps blow everyone’s minds, but you can at least see the Ninja Gaiden DNA and the gameplay looks to be quite fun.
Alongside the announcement of the Final Fantasy spin-off was the news that a playable demo was available right now to download for PlayStation 5.
The demo offered a perfect opportunity for fans to try out the game which could lead to a valuable pre-order. However, the demo release didn’t go as planned.
As covered by VGC, according to some reports, players have been encountering a “data corrupted” error message. Receiving the error message means that even when downloaded, some users are not able to play the demo.
Is the demo going to be fixed?
Thankfully the developers at Team Ninja are aware of the data corrupted error and they are working to fix the issue.
“We’re aware of issues being experienced while trying to download and play Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin Trial Version.” tweeted the game’s official account.
“We’re working to resolve this issue and will tweet an update as soon as we can, we appreciate your patience.”
The demo which went live on June 13th is only available to play until June 24th. However, I would expect the expiry date to be extended once the developers have fixed the demo.
Though it’s not all doom and gloom, because the retired spoof Twitter account for former Sony CEO and chairman, Kaz Hirai came out of retirement to poke fun at the demo’s misfortunes.
“Sorry everyone, The Stranger Of Paradise demo is not running on PS5 because the console is not backwards compatible with PS3 games.”
