On an FAQ page for the Steam Deck, as reported by IGN, Valve confirmed that the handheld wouldn’t have any exclusive games.
The FAQ page covered a variety of questions that were asked by developers and publishers at their Steamworks Steam Deck event. In response to whether they had any interest in the Steam Deck having any exclusive games, the company responded bluntly.
“No, that doesn’t make much sense to us. It’s a PC and it should just play games like a PC,” said Valve. The Half-Life developer is right, as it wouldn’t make any sense to have exclusive games on the Steam Deck. If a game can be released on Steam, there’s no reason it should only be released on handheld.
The FAQ also covered a range of other topics. Valve is apparently closely working with Epic and Unity to make sure their respective engines run smoothly on the console. VR is also technically possible on the Steam Deck.
But Valve did say that it wasn’t optimised or designed for VR. Games that are Steam Deck Verified, meaning they run without issue on the console, will also have more visibility on the store when browsing Steam through the Steam Deck.
The Steam Deck was originally meant to launch this month. But it was delayed to February 2022 . More recently, a report emerged that Valve is working on a new Half-Life game. Sorry to say that it isn’t Half-Life 3. But it is apparently an FPS/ RTS hybrid, inspired by games like Left 4 Dead and Alien Swarm.
