Last night Nintendo treated us to one of the best Nintendo Directs in a long, long time. The Direct had been delayed by a few days following a devastating earthquake in Japan, but it seems even that wasn’t going to stop the tour-de-force that is Nintendo.
With an 11pm UK start time, you might have missed the Direct yourself, so here’s everything you need to know:
Luigi’s Mansion 3
Yes it’s really happening! Luigi’s Mansion 3 is headed to the Nintendo Switch and it’s a pretty exciting announcement. Seeing how successful the original Gamecube title and its 3DS sequel were, it’s not really any shocker to hear the franchise is coming to the Switch, but it’s nice to see it confirmed. Frankly, I can’t wait for this one.
Classic Characters Get Their Own 3DS Games
This is good news for 3DS fans, as Bowser and Kirby are getting some new titles – all to themselves! Kirby’s Epic Extra Yarn is going to be bringing back the cutesy yarn fun we all loved with its predecessor, promising all-round fun.
As for the Big Bad Bowser, he’ll be showing up in Bowser’s Inside Story, which will include Bowser Jr.’s Journey. This’ll be out January 11th, 2019.
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
Mario definitely isn’t shying away from the Nintendo Switch, and he’s set to appear in ANOTHER title for the console out on 11th Jan 2019, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe isn’t exactly new, but if you haven’t played many of the more recent Super Mario Bros. titles then this is a good collection. It also includes New Super Luigi U.
NES-Inspired ControllerS Announced
They look like the classic controllers and they work like Joy-Cons, even sliding into your Nintendo Switch to charge. Again, no release date quite yet, but they’ll only be available for those with paid-for Nintendo Online Accounts.
More About The Switch Online Service
From 18th September 2018 the official Nintendo online service will be live. It’s going to cost around $4 (USD) a month to subscribe or $20 for a full 12 month deal. It’s set to support online play, offer NES games and some cloud support too.
Final Fantasy Games
Final Fantasy 7, Final Fantasy 9 and Final Fantasy 10 are all set to make their Nintendo Switch debuts sometimes in 2019. Although there’s no set dates in place as of yet, the three titles will be available as digital downloads from the Nintendo eShop. Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age will also be dropping on the Switch next year, and if you still need more FF in your life then World of Final Fantasy Maximum and more Chocobo Dungeons are also going to be released.
