Dark Souls Online Servers Taken Offline Due To “Nasty” Security Hack

The Dark Souls online servers have been temporarily taken down by Bandai Namco due to a “nasty” security hack.

The news of the apparent hack was shared on Twitter by FromSoftware fan, SkeleMann. The Twitter user warned fellow Dark Souls fans that this hack can not only brick your PC but also access and share confidential data. Furthermore, the hack is being compared to a Trojan Horse virus.

SkeleMann continued: “It’s highly suggested to NOT PLAY ONLINE DARK SOULS 3 in its current state. Avoid any online activity from DS3.

Thankfully, Bandai Namco is aware of the hack and has disabled online servers as a precaution. However, PvP servers for PlayStation and Xbox consoles are not affected.

PvP servers for Dark Souls 3, Dark Souls 2, and Dark Souls: Remastered have been temporarily deactivated to allow the team to investigate recent reports of an issue with online services. Servers for Dark Souls: PtDE will join them shortly. We apologize for this inconvenience.

Online security seems to be an ongoing battle lately, as we all know. So just to be safe, it might be worth changing any passwords related to any of your Soulsborne accounts as well as checking that your Firewall is active.
