Whether its Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls, Bloodborne or Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, the action-RPG from developers FromSoftware are known for their gruelling difficulty. It will come as no surprise that their next title in line, a collaboration with Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin, will be just as, if not more unforgiving than any of the games that came before.
At this time, the release of Elden Ring is some ways off, though it is initially scheduled to release this year for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. In all honesty, it wouldn’t surprise me if it released in the next-generation of console gaming instead. Though we might not know exactly when Elden Ring will release, we can at least get gossiping with some good old rumours and speculation.
According to rumours posted on ResetEra, the world of Elden Ring will be living and breathing with life, and will adapt to the players actions.
It is said that enemies and wildlife “both big and small” will constantly change their positioning in the world as they go about their business, keeping the player well and truly on their toes. It is also said that the open-world will feature its own dynamic day/night cycles, lighting and weather, something that we not entirely used to with games by FromSoftware.
The post on ResetEra also states that the world of Elden Ring can be compared to the likes of Shadow of the Colossus, in terms of the worlds “vastness, the openness, the freedom, the clever funnelling of player pathing”, which all sounds fantastic to me.
And for those concerned that Elden Ring might lose some of the signature FromSoftware identity, then fear not, because the post says that “there are elements of Dark Souls, which is to be expected given that again, this is a FromSoftware medieval action role-playing game.”
As with all rumours, they must be taken with a pinch of salt, but these latest rumours do seem to be very believable in my opinion. But what do you make of them?
