It seems that the polarising PlayStation exclusive Knack might be coming back after Sony files a new trademark.
When Knack was first released in 2013, it was the poster child of the new PlayStation era. For some, it was supposed to be the leading PlayStation 4 launch title. Sadly for most, that was not the case.
At first glance, Knack could be seen as a platform hack and slash, suitable for all ages. Now, don’t get me wrong, visually and in terms of story, Knack was a game for all ages. However, it was also a more challenging game than many had expected.
Knack was a mixed bag of nuts and bolts
Personally, I wouldn’t see Knack’s difficulty as a major issue. That being said, those that were expecting something similar to Spyro the Dragon, were in for a shock. Ultimately, the mixed reviews reflect a lot of what the gaming community felt about Knack. According to Metacritic, Knack scored a very average 54%.
Knack 2 was then released a new year later, and despite reviewing more favourably, the sequel still didn’t set the world alight, scoring 69% on Metacritic. This is probably why the series has been on a five-year hiatus. However, that might be about to change.
Is Knack coming back?
As reported by DualShockers, Sony has now filed a new trademark for Knack in Japan. This has fueled speculation that the Knack series may be turning into a trilogy. At this time we can only speculate whether we will be treated to Knack 3, but it’s an interesting development nonetheless.
Would you like to see Knack 3 on PlayStation 5? You never know, if Knack does become a trilogy, hopefully, the series might finally live up to its potential.
