Remember when Pokemon Go! was the absolute don? The mobile Pokemon-catching app took the whole world by storm, and you couldn’t step out in public without seeing at least a dozen budding Pokemon Trainers testing their luck and trying to catch ’em all.
Now however, it’s 2018, and Pokemon Go! has become less of a must-have app, and more of a drain on your phone’s battery life…
That being said, there is still a hardcore and dedicated fanbase for the game, with thousands of people still devoting their time and effort into capturing and battling their pocket monsters.
So, now that you have a brief history of Pokemon Go! What would you think about a Ghostbusters version?
Sony Pictures has just announced that they’re launching Ghostbusters World, a mobile game that will have players capture ghosts from their real-world surroundings.
According to Sony, there will be 150 ghosts to collect, and the game will also include a PvP mode, story mode and 3D buildings on a live map.
There will be a couple of changes to the formula that we’re used to seeing in this type of game though, as Ghostbusters World’s story mode (written by the team behind the Ghostbuster comics) and the PvP mode are new ideas to the genre.
The main focus of the app will, of course, be traversing the map and trying to capture ghosts when they appear, and it will be free-to-play.
The upcoming alternate reality app is set to launch later in the year, and is a collaboration between Sony Pictures and 4:33 Creative Lab and Next Age – two game designing companies based in Korea.
Unveiling the game at San Diego Comic Con, it’s left us wondering – has Sony missed the boat on catch-’em-all mobile gaming apps?
Fans were eagerly awaiting a Harry Potter-inspired version of the game after rumours flew that such a thing was happening, and sure, that’s a big enough franchise with a huge enough world that it maybe could tackle the behemoth that is/was Pokemon Go!
But can Ghostbusters really take on the challenge? What do you think, and will you be downloading this game?
