Pokemon Fire Red and Leaf Green released back in 2004, and instantly became a fan favourite because why wouldn’t you want an enhanced version of the original classic Pokemon Red and Blue?
The two games allowed players who had yet to discover the 1996 games a chance to try and catch ’em all, with the addition of a new help menu and a new region.
If you think that these classic games simply couldn’t be beaten then you might need to take a seat, because a modder by the name of Z-Max has developed a new way to play Pokemon Fire Red – with your favourite characters from the Dragon Ball Z universe!
Going under the name Dragon Ball Z: Team Training, the mod has been in development since 2015, but now thanks to a new update, you can finally experience a whole host of exciting new features, including 15 new characters and the DBZ battle music!
According to Z-Max’s post about the game on PokeCommunity, the mod allows you to play as a fighter in training, with the object of the game being to collect eight Saiyanbadges and complete your Scouter by “collecting” the game’s 165+ fighters.
You’ll also have to defeat the Dragon League in combat and you can collect the seven Dragon Balls to release Shenron to grant you a wish.
Of course, the classic Pokemon characters have been replaced with the anime series’ most popular icons. Goku, Vegeta and Gohan replace Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle, and instead of being guided by Professor Oak, he’s been replaced with Dr Brief.
The game looks absolutely gorgeous, and Z-Max’s dedication and love for the franchises shines through his careful and masterful work.
