Colleen O’Shaughnessey, the voice actor of Tails since 2014, will be reprising the role in the sequel to 2020’s Sonic the Hedgehog film.
Like many films these days, the Sonic the Hedgehog film ended with a post-credits scene. Well, technically, it had two. One involved Jim Carrey’s Robotnik sporting the classic mustache in need of a brush. But more importantly, the other showed the yellow kitsune Miles ‘Tails’ Prower showing up on the hunt for Sonic.
The scene did actually have some dialogue from Tails, and for that he was voiced by O’Shaughnessey. So fans have been wondering if the longtime voice actor of Tails would be voicing the character in the sequel film. And now, O’Shaughnessey has confirmed she has been cast in the film on her personal Twitter.
Replies to her tweet show that a lot of fans are incredibly happy at the news. The Sonic fandom is a big and passionate one, so the overwhelmingly positive response isn’t much of a surprise. O’Shaughnessey joins Ben Schwartz who is once again voicing Sonic, Jim Carrey, and James Marsden. Of course, you can’t forget the fact that Idris Elba is voicing Knuckles in the sequel, a casting that equally surprised and excited many.
O’Shaughnessey is the only voice actor to reprise their role from the video games. Big names are normally brought on to appeal to a wider audience. But it’s great to see a video game voice actor get some love for a fan-favourite character. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 currently has a release date of April 8, 2022.
