Sony Interactive Entertainment has acquired another first-party studio, this time Housemarque the developer of PS5 exclusive, Returnal. Could this be the birth of a Returnal series from Housemarque?
Housemarque is a Finnish studio that has been around since 1996. The studio has developed for other platforms, but for the vast majority, Housemarque has brought titles to the PlayStation brand.
A favourite of mine from the studio is Resogun which released in 2013. Resogun was a fun side-scrolling shooter and if you are familiar with this game, as well as the recent PS5 exclusive Returnal, you can see the “bullet-hell” shooter DNA.
Housemarque has gone from strength to strength with every new release and now with the backing and support of Sony, its potential could launch into the stratosphere.
It is exciting times for the once indie studio
