Believe it or not, the Xbox Series X dashboard doesn’t actually run at 4K. However, thanks to an upcoming update, the console’s home screen will soon receive a resolution upgrade [via VG247].
That’s right, Microsoft has rolled out a 4K version of the Xbox dashboard for alpha testing. In a recent statement on Xbox Wire, Microsoft clarified what we can expect from the new and improved home screen:
“With today’s update, Alpha Skip-Ahead Insiders on Xbox Series X consoles connected to a 4K display can begin flighting an increased resolution UI. This change means Home, Guide, and other areas of the UI will be displayed in a higher native resolution for increased sharpness and text readability.”
So, if you’re part of Microsoft’s insider program, you’ll likely be able to experience the ultra HD dash before it releases. While some users likely didn’t even notice the console’s lower home screen resolution, the update will essentially make everything look a lot sharper. Of course, this will largely benefit users who are using their Series X on a 4K display.
Admittedly, most Xbox users probably won’t be jumping for joy at the news of this new Series X upgrade. Nevertheless, the optimised dashboard will contribute towards the hardware’s flashy presentation, which will ultimately help things feel more “next-gen”. After all, consoles are becoming more and more like PCs as technology progresses. Therefore, maintaining a dazzling console experience is important, especially when it comes to keeping dedicated gaming hardware relevant.
