After nearly five years since the console launched, a system update has arrived allowing the Nintendo Switch to support Bluetooth devices.
The Nintendo Switch was initially released in March 2017. Considering the likes of the PS Vita, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One all supported Bluetooth devices, it was reasonable to assume that the Switch would do the same. Unfortunately, that was not the case.
Instead, Nintendo Switch players would have to rely on mobile apps and chat forums such as Discord to speak in real-time with friends while gaming online. Sure, it was better than nothing, but it was also way behind our expectations.
Thankfully, Nintendo has finally released a system update for the Nintendo Switch, allowing you to pair Bluetooth devices for audio output. Seriously Nintendo, what took you so long?
As you might expect, the internet has been reacting accordingly to Nintendo’s better late than never approach.

However, as one Twitter user pointed out, this perhaps isn’t great news for companies selling third-party adaptors.

Out of curiosity, I’ve just checked to see if my Xbox Series X|S Wireless Headset works with the Nintendo Switch, and it does! So, it seems that any Bluetooth headset will now work with the Switch. Happy days.
I suppose it really is better late than never. That said, what features would you like to see Nintendo bring to the Switch next? Preferably before the next console generation. Share your thoughts across our social media channels.
